[Women's Basketball] LSUA's Thaxton repeats as RRAC women's hoops player of the week

WACO, Texas – Kelsey Thaxton of LSU Alexandria (La.) collected her second consecutive RRAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, this time for the span of Dec. 10-16. This is the conference's seventh weekly award of the 2018-19 women's basketball season.

Thaxton sparked a late rally as LSUA stayed unbeaten in conference play with two more victories. The freshman guard notched 18 of her game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter -- including five three-pointers -- as the Generals emerged with a win over Paul Quinn College (Texas), 81-79, on Friday. She also sank three key free throws down the stretch. On the following day, Thaxton only played one half but contributed 12 points and five rebounds en route to an 83-58 defeat of Texas College. The native of Many, La., made 14-of-30 shots from the field and 8-of-18 three-pointers for the week. Thaxton is fifth in the RRAC in scoring with 15.3 points per game this season. The Generals are now 4-0 in the conference standings and 11-2 overall.

Additional nominees: Catarina Garcia (Southwest), Sheridan Hopkins (St. Thomas), Armonie Lomax (Wiley), Keiara Williams (LSU Shreveport).
