[Volleyball] Women's Volleyball Makes History in 2018 Season

Sioux City, IA – Grand View women's 2018 campaign comes to an end in the quarterfinals at 39th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship presented by Delta Hotels at the Tyson Events Center Friday night.

Grand View dropped to Viterbo University in four sets, 25-15, 20-25, 19-25, 19-25. The Vikings end the season with a 36-1 record and became the second team in history to make it to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.

The action…

Grand View took an early 6-3 lead over the V-Hawks. A 9-4 run gave them a 15-7 advantage and the momentum to finish the set 25-15. The Vikings recorded a .267 hitting percentage and held the V-Hawks to a -.054 hitting percentage.

The Vikings jumped out again 5-2 in set two after senior Kelsey Redmond (SR/Iowa Falls, IA) was a blocking force at the net. A 5-2 run for the V-Hawks tied the set up at 7-7 and allowed them to run away with the set claiming it 25-20.

A block from Courtney Twit (SR/West Des Moines, IA) and a service ace from Maria Goodwin gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead to start the third set. The teams battled back-and-forth until two services aces from Jordyn Rittman (SR/Ankeny, IA) and two kills from Miranda Greathouse (FR/Ankeny, IA) gave the Vikings a 9-5 advantage. Viterbo battled back tying the set 10-10 but GV answered with a 3-1 run, all three Vikings points coming from Courtney Twit. A 7-3 run in Viterbo's favor gave the V-Hawks a 20-16 lead and eventually a 25-19 set win.

Neither team could get ahead in the fourth set, remaining within two points until a 5-0 run gave Viterbo an 11-5 lead. Grand View closed the gap to one point at 16-15 but was never able to take the lead and dropped the final set 25-19.

Key players...

Twit led the Vikings with 12 kills while teammate Meagan Miller (SR/Floyd, IA) recorded a double-double with 13 digs and 11 kills. Jordyn Rittman anchored the back line with 19 digs. Redmond and Greathouse chipped in nine and seven kills, respectively.

Grand View wants to thank the senior class along with the rest of the Viking team for their contributions and dedication to a history-making season.
