Mariners Moose Tracks, 5/27/18: Trade Reactions, Injured Pitchers, and Husky Softball

also all the minor leaguers hitting all of the home runs

Last night the Mariners won another thriller. Catch up on the recap here. This team is just ridiculous amounts of fun, but it’s also really cool to see how much they get along as a team.

Of all the flying Gatorade colors, purple is the most beautiful, don’t you think? I mean I suppose it should be blue because #branding, but there’s something about the way purple shows up on film.

Health Updates on the game from last night, because apparently that’s a thing we have to have a heading for in the links now:

In Mariners Minors News...

  • Perhaps fearful of being next on the trade block, the Mariners prospects went cuckoo with the long ball yesterday:
  • Evan White’s bat is starting to heat up in Modesto:
  • LHP Orlando Razo was summoned to Clinton from extended spring to replace Tommy Romero, who was traded to the Rays. He was in the AZL last season after being drafted out of UC Davis so this was my first chance to see him, and he looked impressive against a Cedar Rapid squad that boasts many top prospects, including #1 overall pick Royce Lewis:

Clinton won both the games in the doubleheader, including the one started by Twins top pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol, who regularly hits triple digits.

  • The Arkansas Travelers also crushed the Frisco RoughRiders, 9-2, on the back of big days from converted catcher Joe DeCarlo (2x4 with 2B and a two-run HR) and first baseman/enormous human Joey Curletta (2x5 with 2B and two-run HR, 5 RBI).

Around the League...

  • One of the best parts of being in a bullpen is getting to overhear all the fans who don’t know you’re listening to them, I’d imagine.

Kate’s Pick...

  • The UW softball team is headed for the Women’s College World Series. Also they call themselves “unicorns,” which is entirely delightful to eleven-year-old Kate, who slept on unicorn sheets beneath a giant Edgar Martinez poster.

In the spirit of fairness I will point out that of the eight teams headed to the WCWS, HALF of them are PAC-12 teams: Washington, Oregon, ASU, and UCLA. That’s some pretty impressive talent concentrated in one conference.
