Greenville softball tops Cohoes in extra innings

Ava Fitzmaurice pitched Greenville to an emotional win Wednesday and thought her arm would get a rest from the rigors inside the circle Thursday. The cardiac kids from Cohoes had other ideas, forcing extra innings in a nonleague game between two sectional champions from 2017.

Fitzmaurice kept the Tigers' bats quiet in her two innings of relief work and the senior standout added a key two-run single in the ninth as the Spartans secured a 10-7 road victory.

Both coaches — Greenville's Brian Haller and Cohoes' Frank Ryan — spent the majority of the afternoon exasperated by the lack of focus from their charges.
