COLUMBIA, S.C.- The St. Andrews University softball team swept both of their final conference games against Allen University (S.C.) on the road Friday afternoon winning 12-0 in game 1 and 10-2 in game 2.
In the game one win, sophomore starter S.K. Brown (SO/Huntersville, NC) (Huntersville, NC) tossed her first career perfect game in the shutout win with a career-high 11 strikeouts. She obviously allowed no hits, runs or walks in the win as she improves to 5-13 on the season with a team-best 75 strikeouts. It is the first perfect game/no-hitter for SAU since joining the NAIA in 2012.
Offensively, SAU outhit Allen 12-0 led by a multi-hit games from three players while 8 different Lady Knights recorded at least one hit.
Leading the way was freshman CF Cassie Fortner (FR/Lexington, NC) as she went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs while junior outfielder Amanda Shaffer (JR/Sandyston, NJ) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs as well. Fellow outfielder Reina Mondragon (JR/Williamston, NC) also tallied two hits while sophomore 3B/P Brennan Broadaway (SO/Oakboro, NC) drove in three runs with her hit. Broadaway started game two on the mound and threw all five innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Broadaway improves to 4-6 with the win and lowers her ERA to 4.60. She is also leading the team with 47 hits and 11 doubles on the season while batting .297.
The Lady Knights out hit Allen 8-3 in game two led by a 3 for 3 day from junior catcher Symphony Arguedas (JR/Riverside, CA) as she also scored two runs, stole two bases and drove in another with her double.
