[Softball] Yattoni and Specht pitch Bees to split with Titans
Forced back indoors due to the weather, the Bees split a conference doubleheader with Indiana South Bend Saturday in the Ambrose Dome.
St. Ambrose won the opener 5-0 before dropping the second game 2-1 to move to 21-9 overall and 7-3 in the CCAC.
Ashley Yattoni and Ella Specht combined on a four-hit shutout in the opener.
Yattoni was staked to an early lead after SAU took advantage of an IUSB error in the bottom of the first. Megan Ballegeer's infield popup was dropped and Christina Pembrook made the Titans pay, delivering a triple down the left-field line. Morgan Krieger followed with a run-scoring single to center for a 2-0 lead.
The Bees broke things open in the fourth. Madelyn Thompson doubled and Logan Frerichs walked before they each stole a base to move into scoring position. Yattoni singled to center to plate both runs and moved to second on a Titans' error. Yattoni then stole third and came around to score when the catcher's throw got away from the third baseman.
After helping up the lead to 5-0, Yattoni earned her 10th win of the season by striking out seven over five scoreless innings. She surrendered just two hits.
Specht took over in the sixth and allowed two hits while striking out a pair over the final two innings.
