[Softball] Grand View pitching shuts out Peru Bobcats 2-0
Grand View takes two from Peru State on the road. Both Claudia Farrell (SR/Des Moines, IA) and Libby Yenger (JR/Indianola, IA) pitched shut out games for the Vikings. GV shut down the Bobcats winning game one 8-0 and 7-0 in game two.

The Vikings won game one 8-0 over the Bobcats with the help from senior pitcher, Farrell who threw a shutout game. During the seven inning game she held Peru to zero runs, four hits, striking out ten, and walking one.
Grand View got on the board in the fourth inning after Lauren Poortinga (JR/Des Moines, IA) hit a homerun to start the inning. The Vikings scored three more runs in the fourth Kaylee Watson (FR/Stockport, IA) and Maddie Thilges (SO/Johnston, IA) each collected an RBI during the inning Grand View lead Peru 3-0 at top of the fourth. GV kept the momentum going in the fifth inning scoring three more runs advancing their lead 6-0. The fifth inning offense was led by the Kaylee Watson both drove in runs. Lexi Merritt (SO/Waukee, IA) joined Poortinga also hitting a homerun in the sixth inning. The Vikings racked up 13 hits during game one. Maddie Thilges, Poortinga, Watson, Kate Crow (SR/Ames, Iowa) and Kristen Webb (SR/Pleasant Hill, IA) all had multiple hits for GV. Thilges led the team offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Vikings were successful in the field as well, they did not commit a single error throughout game one.

The Vikings defeated the Bobcats in game two 7-0. The team started strong when Lexie Merritt and Stanzy Snyder (SR/Johnston, IA) both scored. The Vikings racked up two more runs one in the third and one in the fourth however they had their biggest inning in the seventh. GV racked up three runs in the seventh to advance the score 7-0. Merritt, Snyder and Biehl each had RBI in the seventh inning. Grand View tallied up nine hits on the day with Merritt and Snyder each leading the Vikings with three a piece.
Libby Yenger pitched all seven innings for the Vikings. She allowed four hits and zero runs. Yenger struck out four Bobcats and walked one.
Up Next: The Vikings will play again Wednesday April 11th on the road against Clarke University. Games start at 2 and 4 PM.
