[Softball] St. Ambrose loses first CCAC games of the year

0

Off another long weather-forced break, St. Ambrose lost a doubleheader at Trinity International Tuesday afternoon. Playing for the first time since March 31 after four postponements, the Bees fell 1-0 in the opener and 3-2 in the second game to move to 18-8 overall and 4-2 in the CCAC.

Ashley Yattoni was the hard-luck loser in Game 1. She allowed just three hits over five innings but was charged with the loss after allowing a single run in the third inning.

SAU also managed just three hits, two coming off the bat of Julie Trellicoso.

The Bees had their chances. The team had at least one runner on base in six of the seven innings. But two double plays and the lack of a big hit ended in the team's second shutout of the season.

Yattoni collected the other St. Ambrose hit, a two-out single in the seventh. But after stealing second, she became the Bees' fifth stranded baserunner of the game.

Christina Pembrook retired the side in order in one inning of relief.

The offense fared better in the second game, totaling a pair of runs on six hits, but Trinity International scored in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off with a sweep of the twin bill.
