[Softball] Tonini Throws a No-No as Lions Sweep the Firebirds
COSTA MESA, Calif. — A big day was in store for Vanguard University who continues to build upon their hot season in preparation for the postseason. The Pride hosted University of Saint Katherine for a non-conference doubleheader, and came out victorious with a sweep of the Firebirds and a special victory for Kolbi Tonini. Tonini logged her first career no-hitter in the day's opener, lifting the Lions to victory. The junior RHP said she's happy with the way the day went, and happy with how the defense played. "Honestly, it could not have happened without them. They give a 100 percent effort all the time. Sam called a great game." As the regular season winds down, the Lions have heightened their focus of playing their best each game. "Yesterday, we did not really play how we wanted to. We needed today," Tonini said. "Today was really good lifting us up going into Saturday and the next two weeks. We have big games coming up and we just needed to get back on track."
