CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Sometimes, softball can prove to be a perplexing game.
Saturday afternoon's River States Conference doubleheader between the University of Rio Grande and West Virginia University-Tech proved to be a perfect example.
The RedStorm rolled to a mercy rule-shortened 9-1 triumph in game one, but watched the Golden Bears rally for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post an 8-6 victory in the nightcap of their twin bill played at the University of Charleston.
Rio Grande finished the day at 20-9 overall and 7-1 in league play after the split.
The game two loss was just the third regular season conference setback for the RedStorm since the start of the 2016 season.
WVU-Tech improved to 10-18 overall and 2-4 in the RSC with its win in the day's finale.
