[Softball] Softball Drops Doubleheader to Owls

FULTON, MO- After two tough losses to the Pirates yesterday, the Hornet softball team looked to get back on track against the Owls of William Woods University. Harris-Stowe nearly had William Woods in game one, but WWU would come out on top in both games winning 3-2 and 8-0.

GAME ONE: HARRIS-STOWE (2) WILLIAM WOODS (3)

William Woods University scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning after back-to-back errors committed by Harris-Stowe.

Amanda Bouchey was the first to score after Ari Arnold reached base on an error. Emma Walker and Lindsay Van Tress were the final runners to score for the Owls in the inning to take a quick 3-0 lead.

The Hornets gained a run back in the top of the 4th when Courtney Norris (SR/St. Louis, Missouri) hit a sacrifice fly to left field and brought Ariel Lipe (SR/Ellington, Missouri) home from third base.

Harris-Stowe wasn't finished there; Cassidy Williams (JR/Olive Branch, MS) hit a ball into deep right-center field that brought Ariel Lipe across the plate to cut the Owls lead to 3-2.

HSSU would not get another opportunity to score the rest of the game and would fall in game one 3-2.

Sophia Chamberlain (JR/Bakersfield, CA) pitched 6.0 innings giving up 6 hits and no earned runs. She struck one out while walking just one batter.

GAME TWO: HARRIS-STOWE (0) WILLIAM WOODS (8)

The second game was a different story for the Hornets, collecting only three hits and being held scoreless as William Woods went on to score 8 runs.

The Owls picked up 5 runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead. They added two more in the bottom of the 4th when Alli Massey doubled to deep right-center field and brought Emma Walker and Emily Robinett around the bases.

Sophia Chamberlain started game two and went 2.0 innings while Courtney Norris finished the game going 2.1 innings.

With the losses, Harris-Stowe moves to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in AMC play. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Conway, AR to take on the Mustangs of Central Baptist College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
