[Softball] Firestorm Sweeps SDC Softball

PHOENIX — Bailey Romano went 4-5 and the Hawks pounded out 15 hits but fell in both games of the DH against Arizona Christian on Tuesday.

The Hawks fell 11-7 in Game 1 and 9-1 in Game 2.

The losses drop SDC to 9-15 on the season and 0-8 in GSAC play. The Firestorm improve to 11-16 and 4-6 respectively.

SDC outhit the Firestorm in Game 1 13-12. They were able to get on the board first, too in the second inning. Maritza Martinez singled up the middle scoring Bailey Romano and Nicole Whitney. But the Firestorm answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning as the lead was short lived for the Hawks.

In the fourth, the Hawks were able to get on the board again. Joselle Nicolas singled home Whitney and Tori Harris's RBI single scored Kaylyn Rubalcava.

SDC added a run in the fifth and Jordan Neal hit a 2-run homer in the sixth but was not enough.

Romano led with three hits and Neal lead with 2 RBI.

The Hawks scored first in Game 2 as well. Romano's fielder's choice brought home Harris for the 1-0 lead. But ACU scored five runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third to run-rule SDC.

SDC is back at it on Wednesday as they stay in Arizona to play Embry-Riddle for a DH starting at noon.
