[Softball] GV Pitching shuts down Benedictine 2-0

The No. 16 Vikings shut out the Ravens in both games Sunday afternoon they did not allow a single run. Winning game one 9-0 and game two 3-0.

Game 1 | Grand View – 9, Benedictine – 0 |

In game one the Vikings saw the ball well throughout the game, racking up 12 hits in the game. Lexi Merritt (SO/Waukee, IA), Stanzy Synder, and Claudia Farrell (SR/Des Moines, IA) each managed multiple hits for the Vikings. Farrell, Synder and Merritt all led the team with two hits each.

Grand View had their biggest inning in the fifth inning, scoring five runs.  offensive onslaught was led by Jillian Belieu (JR/West Des Moines, IA), Lexie Biehl (SR/Maquoketa, IA), Lauren Poortinga (JR/Des Moines, IA), and Kate Crow (SR/Ames, Iowa) all earning RBI in inning. 

Farrell was at the mound for the Vikings she did not allow the Raven's to earn a single run and only gave up two hits during the game.

Game 2 | Grand View – 3, Benedictine – 0 |

In game two Libby Yenger (JR/Indianola, IA) pitched for the Vikings and did not allow a single run for the Ravens. The pitching in game two was strong on both sides, Yenger stuck out four and Alex Gillham of Benedictine struck out five.

In the first inning Crow singled driving one Viking in. Grand View scored two more runs in the sixth inning. Crow went two for three at plate to lead the Vikings in hits. Lexie Biehl scored two of the three run for Grand View.

Grand View did not allow a single error in the field, Lexi Merritt had the most chances in the field with ten.
