[Softball] Rio takes two from Trailblazers

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Seemingly, it took forever for the University of Rio Grande softball team to play a game on its home field.
    As things turned out, though, the wait was well worth it.
    The RedStorm posted a mercy rule-shortened rout of Ohio Christian University in the River States Conference opener for both teams before completing a sweep of the Trailblazers in the nightcap of the twin bill at chilly Rio Softball Park.
    Rio used a seven-run third inning explosion and shutdown pitching by junior Kelsey Conkey (Minford, OH) to fuel a 10-0 five-inning win in game one, while freshman Kayla Slutz (Navarre, OH) had two hits and three RBI to propel a 5-1 triumph in the back end of the doubleheader.
    The RedStorm, who maintained a perfect all-time mark against OCU with the two wins, finished the day at 15-8.
    The Trailblazers fell to 7-7 overall as a result of the sweep.
