[Softball] Softball Falcons Record Dominating Sweep at Texas Wesleyan
Ft. Worth, Texas – The Friends University Falcons posted two victories today (Mar. 18) at the Texas Wesleyan University Lady Rams, winning 16-7 in the first game and then taking the nightcap 6-3.
The Falcons blistered the Lady Rams in the opener, scoring a combined 13 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings after falling behind 4-3.
The fourth and fifth frames saw five tallies each for the Falcons, with Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) hitting a two-run homer in the fifth inning outburst.
Erin King (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) then nailed a pinch-hit two-run double to spark a three-run sixth inning for the Falcons.
Isabella Gonzalez (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) had three hits in five at-bats for Friends, with Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.) driving home a career-best three runs, including a two-run double to help the Falcons score three in the first inning.
Beth Cagle (JR/Enid, Okla. ) also had two RBIs in the Falcons' opening game victory, with Downey, Kaelyn Smith (SR/Tuscon, Ariz.) and Moriah Kayhill (SR/Ottawa, Kan. ) each recording two hits.
Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) started for the Falcons and went 3 1/3 innings, with seven runs allowed (five earned) before giving way to Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.).
Breslin finished the win by blanking the Lady Rams over the final 2 2/3 frames to earn her second career save.
Bailey Terry had a three-run homer in the fourth inning among her four RBIs for the Lady Rams.
The second game featured three more hits for Gonzalez in a 3-of-4 effort at the plate.
The Falcons did the bulk of their damage in the fifth, crossing the plate five times to take control.
Smith and Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.) each had two hits, with Friends getting an RBI from Fox, King and Brunson.
Breslin got the start for the Falcons (9-14) in the second game and earned a victory, lasting four innings and allowing two runs and striking out one.
Walker also saw time in the circle and struck out three in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Lauren Wernet went 2-of-4 with an RBI for the Lady Rams (16-8) in the nightcap.
