[Softball] Lady Knights Struggle at Brenau

GAINESVILLE, GA - The St. Andrews University Softball team could not get their offense on track in falling in both games of their doubleheader to new conference foe, 11th ranked Brenau University (Ga.) 6-1 in game one and 6-0 in game two.

GAME 1: BRENAU 6, SAU 1

Brenau got on the board first scoring a run each in the 1st and 3rd innings before the Lady Knights came back with one of their own in the 4th inning as sophomore SS Ashlyn Dial (SO/Laurinburg, NC) tripled in freshman Catcher Lucy Trujillo (FR/Nyssa, OR), who had singled.

With the Knights trailing just 2-1 in the 5th, Brenau then opened up their offense, scoring 4 runs off game one starter, Nancy Amos (JR/Huntersville, NC), to basically put the game away. SAU, unfortunately, could not mount any rallies the rest of the way as they were held to just 3 hits all game.

Amos (9-6) picked up the loss allowing 6 hits and 6 runs (just 3 earned) on 3 walks and a strikeout over 6 innings.

Leading the offense in game one with hits was Trujillo, Dial with her triple, and sophomore pinch-hitter Asucena Trujillo (SO/Nyssa, OR) while freshman CF Cassie Fortner (FR/Lexington, NC), junior 1B Lexi Dawson (JR/Garland, NC), and junior outfielder Rachel Swartwood (JR/Wilmington, NC) all walked.

GAME 2: BRENAU 6, SAU 0

Brenau then got off to a good start in game two scoring four runs over the first two innings off SAU's sophomore game two starter, Brennan Broadaway (SO/Oakboro, NC). Broadaway allowed just two hits but four earned runs on 2 walks while sophomore reliever S.K. Brown (SO/Huntersville, NC) then finished the game allowing just 3 hits and 2 runs over 4 innings.

Brenau scored their other two runs in the 5th inning off Brown while also hitting two home runs on the day. The SAU offense, on the other hand, could not find any traction off the Brenau starter who threw all 7 innings allowing 4 hits.

Leading the knights with hits in game two were infielders Dawson, junior 2B Nikki Santiago (JR/Gainesville, FL), sophomore 3B Lily Pinto (SO/Boca Raton, FL), and DP A. Trujillo. Trujillo also walked as she reached base twice.

SAU falls to 14-16 on the season and 2-8 in the AAC while Brenau goes to 11-8 and 2-0 in conference.

SAU will continue their southern road trip by heading back to Columbia on Tuesday to face conference foe Allen University (S.C.) in a 1:00 PM DH.
