[Softball] Lady Knights Split with Bryan

LAURINBURG, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team split with conference foe Bryan College (TN) at home Saturday afternoon. SAU won game one 2-1 while Bryan took game two 5-2.

GAME 1: SAU 2, BRYAN 1

The Lady Knights got on the board quickly in game one scoring two runs in the first on a sacrifice fly from junior 1B Lexi Dawson (JR/Garland, NC) and an RBI single from junior catcher Symphony Arguedas (JR/Riverside, CA). They drove in sophomore 3B Brennan Broadaway (SO/Oakboro, NC), who had walked, and junior outfielder Reina Mondragon (JR/Williamston, NC), who had singled.

A pitcher's duel then developed for the rest of the game with junior starter Nancy Amos (JR/Huntersville, NC) winning the 7 inning battle with Bryan College's two pitchers. Amos allowed one second inning unearned run, but shut out the Lady Lions the rest of the way to improve to 9-3 on the season. She finished allowing 3 hits on a walk and 3 strikeouts.

Leading the offense in game one with hits was freshman Catcher Lucy Trujillo (FR/Nyssa, OR) with a double while Junior 2B Nikki Santiago (JR/Gainesville, FL) and freshman CF Cassie Fortner (FR/Lexington, NC) also singled.

GAME 2: BRYAN 5, SAU 2

Amos also started game two for the Knights and got off to a rocky start as Bryan scored two early in the first and added two more in the third as they got out to a 4-0 lead. SAU would then tack on two runs of their own in the third to trim the lead in half. Bryan would add another on a solo home run in the 5th while SAU could not rally back leaving the bases loaded in the 7th and nine players on base throughout the game.

Amos (9-4) picked up the loss allowing 7 hits and 5 runs (4 earned) on 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 5 innings while Broadaway finished the game allowing just one hit with a strikeout over two scoreless innings.

Sophomore SS Ashlyn Dial (SO/Laurinburg, NC) led the offense game two going 2 for 3 with a double and a stolen base while Dawson and Santiago also recorded doubles. Also recording hits were Broadaway, Mondragon, and Fortner while Fortner and Santiago also stole bases and are tied for the team lead with 15 apiece.
