[Softball] Softball Falcons Win 8-2 Over Langston to Salvage Split on Final Day of McPherson ...

McPherson, Kan. – The Friends University Softball Falcons defeated the Langston University Lady Lions 8-2 in their final game of the McPherson Tournament today (Mar. 10) at Wall Park in McPherson, Kan.

Friends vs. Langston

After dropping their first four games of the tourney, the Falcons started this one off right, taking control with a four-run first inning.

Isabella Gonzalez (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) started the frame with a leadoff single and came around to score the Falcons' first run on a groundout by Mackenzie Nichols (JR/Columbus, Ohio).

Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.) later drew a bases-loaded walk and two runs then scored on a single by Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.).

The Falcons weren't through adding to their lead, scoring two more in the second as a single by Breanna Vest (JR/Fayettevile, Ark. ) chased home Shelby Belloni (JR/Lakewood, Colo. ) to finish the frame.

Friends scored again in the bottom of the third before Emily Escobar (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) singled home Megan Hardtarfer (SO/Halstead, Kan.) in the sixth.

Gonzalez, Belloni, Vest and Escobar each had two hits for the Falcons (7-12).

Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) started in the circle and pitched a scoreless first inning before giving way to Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.), who tossed a pair of scoreless innings.

Reaghan Burris (SR/Larned, Kan.) followed and allowed two unearned runs in her two innings.

Ashlyn Jacobs (FR/Wichita, Kan. ) then finished things off by blanking the Lady Lions over the final two frames.

Friends vs. Morningside

In the setback, Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) had a career-high tying three hits in going 3-of-4 at the plate.

Fox singled home Kennedy Brunson in the second and then scored on a base hit from Kaelyn Smith (SR/Tuscon, Ariz.).

But the Mustangs got a two-run single by Carson Cameron to finish a three-run third inning that put Morningside in front.

The Mustangs then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run triple by Lexi Stolen.

Brunson led off the seventh with a bunt single and wound up scoring on an error to make it a two-run game.

The Falcons then put runners at the corners with one out, but the Mustangs' Alex Nelson got a strikeout and pop out to end the threat and finish out the win.

Brunson and Isabella Gonzalez each had two hits for the Falcons, with Brunson also scoring a pair of runs.

Maci Walker and Heather Breslin each saw three innings in the circle against Morningside, with Walker giving up three runs and Breslin surrendering two runs.

Cameron was 3-of-3 for the Mustangs along with her two RBIs.  

The Falcons will next return home and host Doane College (Neb.) Wednesday day starting at 2 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
