[Softball] Hawks Split with La Serra

SANTEE, Calif. — The SDC softball team came back from a 7-4 deficit in the third to defeat La Sierra 10-8 in Game 1 before bowing out in Game 2 21-5 in five innings.

The split gives the Hawks an 8-6 record on the season as La Sierra is now 7-12-1.

In the first inning the Golden Eagles opened up with a run to take the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, SDC answered with four runs, three from a homer by Kayla Mack. She leads the team with seven on the season.

LSU added tow runs in the second and four in the third to take a 7-4 lead. Emily Espino started the comeback for the Hawks as her single scored Jordan Neal. Joselle Nicolas then hit a 2 RBI single scoring Espino and Romano to end the scoring in the inning to give SDC the 8-7 lead. The Golden Eagles added a run in the fifth to tie the game 8-8.

With two outs, Jordan Neal tripled home Victoria Harris to give the Hawks the lead. Romano later doubled to bring Neal home from third for the final run of the game.

Four Hawk batters tallied two hits. Mack led with 3 RBI. Emily McMath earned her eighth win of the season. In her seven innings she allowed eight hits, eight runs with 11 walks.

In Game 2, it was the Hawks who started off hot. La Sierra did score another first inning run, but the Hawks added three in the bottom half of the first and one in the second. Neal hit a 2-run homer scoring Mack giving SDC a 3-1 lead. Angelina Savoldi tallied an RBI groundout to give SDC a 4-1 lead.

But the game would fall apart rather quickly for the Hawks. LSU scored five runs in the third to regain their lead and kept their momentum going scoring eight in the fourth and seven in the fifth for their 21 runs. SDC added a run in the bottom of the fifth but it was far too little.

Mack and Neal tallied two RBI each. Nicolas led with two runs.

The Hawks are back on the field on Thursday hosting Saint Thomas. First game is scheduled for noon.
