[Softball] Viking Softball goes 2-1 with Oklahoma Wesleyan over the weekend
Bartlesville, Okla. - No. 21 Grand View softball goes 2-1 against Oklahoma Wesleyan on the road this weekend. They took both games on Saturday, February 17, 5-0 and 4-1, but fell on Sunday, 11-9.

In game one the Vikings defeated the Eagles 5-0. Claudia Farrell (SR/Des Moines, IA) lasted pitched seven innings for GV. The All-American pitcher had a successful game striking out nine Eagles, allowing only two hits and giving up no runs. The Vikings earned seven hits, five runs over seven innings.
The Vikings scored in the first inning after Kate Crow (SR/Ames, Iowa) hit a single for an RBI. Grand View earned three more runs on the board in the fourth inning. Maddie Thilges (SO/Johnston, IA), Claudia Farrell and Lauren Poortinga (JR/Des Moines, IA) all drove in runs. The Eagles were able to hit a single in the sixth innings but did not allow for any runs to be scored.
The Vikings were level at the plate with six Vikings recording one hit, Stanzy Snyder, Lexie Biehl (SR/Maquoketa, IA), Kristen Webb (SR/Pleasant Hill, IA), Crow, Thigles, and Farrell.

In game two the Vikings earned another victory over the Eagles, 4-1. Libby Yenger (JR/Indianola, IA) earned the win for the Vikings. She gave up one run on two hits over eight innings. Yenger was able to strike out eight Eagles only walking one.
Biehl recorded two hits out of the three at-bats and Lexi Merritt earned two RBI for the Vikings.
Grand View did not commit any errors in the field. Kelsey Winnett (JR/Coon Rapids, IA) lead the team with ten putouts.

The Vikings played the Eagles for a third time Sunday. They fell short in the high scoring game after losing their lead late in the game. The game was tied at five until Oklahoma Wesleyan scored one run off of an error at the bottom of the sixth.
Grand View collected 11 hits and Oklahoma Wesleyan totaled nine hits. In the seventh inning, Lauren Poortinga, Stanzy Synder, and Lexi Merrit each drove runs during the inning. The Vikings hit two home runs during the game. Kelsey Winnett had one homer in the fifth inning and Poortinga also hit one in the seventh inning.
The Vikings were level at the plate collecting 11 hits on the day. Poortinga, Lexi Biehl, Winnett, and Synder each had multiple hits for the Vikings. Synder, Winnett, Biehl, and Poortinga each earned two hits to lead the team.
