[Softball] Softball Splits with Saint Aug's

RALEIGH, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team split their non-conference DH on the road on Thursday vs. Div. II foe Saint Augustine's Univ. (N.C). SAU took game one 6-3 and while Saint Aug's won game two 11-6.

GAME 1: SAU 6, Saint Aug's 3

SAU got out to an early 1-0 lead in the third before Aug's tied it in the 4th. It would remain tied until the 6th when the Knights pushed 4 runs across to lead 5-1. St. Aug's would trim it to 5-3 before SAU added an insurance run in the 7th for the 6-3 win.

Lady Knights' sophomore starting pitcher, S.K. Brown (SO/Huntersville, NC) (2-3), threw 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) on 1 walk and a season-best 8 strikeouts to get the win while junior reliever Nancy Amos (JR/Huntersville, NC) closed the game with a scoreless 7th inning to pick up the save.

SAU outhit the Falcons 9-6 led by five Lady Knights recording multi-hit games. Leading the Knights offense with a home run and two RBIs was junior 1B Amanda Shaffer (JR/Sandyston, NJ) while freshman CF Cassie Fortner (FR/Lexington, NC) was also 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Freshman catcher Avery Korne (FR/Huntington, WV) also went 2 for 2 while driving in a run with a double while junior RF Rachel Swartwood (JR/Wilmington, NC) kept up her strong start to the season by also knocking two hits with an RBI.

SAU also stole five bases in the win led by two from junior infielder Nikki Santiago (JR/Gainesville, FL).

GAME 2: SAINT AUG'S 11, SAU 6

SAU is now 3-5 on the season while Saint Augustine's is 1-1.

SAU will now return home to host Div. II Fayetteville St. on Saturday at 12 Noon.
