[Softball] Vikings split season opener against Winona State
Rochester, Minn. – No. 21 Grand View softball won their first game of the season Wednesday, February 14th, 2-1 over NCAA No. 24 Winona State University. The Warriors battled back in game two defeating the Vikings 9-1.

In game one three-time All-America Claudia Farrell (SR/Des Moines, IA) struck out seven over 7.0 IP. Farrell gave up just one run on five hits. The Warriors took the lead in the fourth inning scoring one run. The Vikings answered in the fifth inning adding a pair of runs to the board. Lexie Biehl (SR/Maquoketa, IA) had an RBI for Kaylee Watson (FR/Stockport, IA) to score and after an error from Winona State Biehl was able to score as well.
The Vikings recorded five hits on two runs and committed just one error. Biehl lead the Vikings with three hits on three at-bats. Farrell recorded her first win for the Vikings in the 2018 season.

In game two, Grand View struggled to put runs on the board. The Vikings had trouble stopping Winona State, giving up nine runs. In the third inning, Winona State scored four runs taking an early led that the Vikings were unable come back from.
Libby Yenger (JR/Indianola, IA) started pitching for the Vikings and continued for the first four innings. She struck out five Warriors and walked one, allowed 11 hits and nine runs.
Kate Crow (SR/Ames, Iowa) and Lexie Biehl led the Vikings each collecting one hit in game two.
On Deck
The Vikings are back in action this weekend at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18. Both doubleheaders start at 1 pm.
