[Softball] Pride Opens Season on a High Note
COSTA MESA, Calif. — No. 17 Vanguard University opened the season with a double-header against University of La Verne, completing a shutout in Game 2 and sweeping the Leopards on the day. The Blue and Gold performed well as a unit, increasing their drive to the victory. Head coach Beth Renkoski said opening the season with a sweep is always a good thing, and the girls met the coaching staff's expectations in terms of togetherness. "All the girls chipped in. They were excited, fun and had a good time," she said. "We're going to keep doing that — keep the energy up and keep playing together." Renkoski noted overall, the team is happy with the way they played. " ⁃ It's a good start. I was pleased we made a mistake early in the first game and bounced right back and didn't let them score anymore," she said. "We were able to make some good defensive plays to keep it scoreless in Game 2 and I think that sets a good tone for the season."
