[Softball] Sarah Hershman-McGrath Named New Head Softball Coach

SANTEE, Calif. –The SDC Athletic Department is pleased to announce Sarah Hershman-McGrath as the new head softball coach, effective Sept. 1.

Hershman-McGrath spent four years playing at San Diego State before playing professional softball for the New York/New Jersey Juggernauts in 2004. She was also the head varsity softball coach at Maraste High School that same year. Hershman-McGrath coached two season for the Hoboken U14 Travel Ball from 2004-05.

"Having known Sarah for over 25 years I'm excited for her to join the Hawk family," Athletic Director Carolyn Peters said. "I know her love of Christ and her positive energy will greatly impact our student athletes."

In 2002, she was named to the All-Mountain West Conference team and the Louisville Slugger West Region Second Team at San Diego State. She finished the season with a .309 batting average and finished her career with a ranking in every career category for the Aztecs. She still ranks second in SDSU history in games played at 235 and games started at 229. She is still ranked fifth in stolen bases with 50 and her 97 career RBI are still good for 10th all-time.

Most recently, Hershman-McGrath was a Case Manager for Vista Hill Perintal. She supported clients through visits and goal planning as well as helping with their transitioning into the community after treatment. She would help her clients obtain housing and teach them parenting and life skills.

Vista Hill Perintal helps improve individual and family capability and functioning, decrease the incidence of crime, support the woman's ability to become self-sufficient through education and employment, and treat and encourage the birth of drug-free healthy babies.

The Hawks finished the 2017 season a game short of the GSAC Championship Title Game with a 26-23 overall record.
