[Softball] Softball Swept by OBU

4.27.10 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University softball team fell in a doubleheader against Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Oklahoma Baptist University 7-4 in the opener and 3-0 in the night cap on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Allen Field.

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Bison dented the scoreboard first in the opener, plating a run in the third frame. MACU had a chance to knot up the score in the bottom half of the inning but left a runner stranded on third base.

OBU extended their lead in the fourth. Theresa Garcia opened the inning with a single and stole third. Pitcher Jill Wilbanks went on to strikeout the next two batters but the top of the order was able to keep the inning alive for the Lady Bison. Lead off hitter Alyssa Henkes singled to put runners on first and third. Candice Holden followed with a single to push Garcia across home plate. OBU took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.

MACU tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Ashley Newman led of the inning with a stand-up double to deep left field while Chelsea Downs reached on a walk. Ashlie Dodson reached on fielder choice to put runners on first and third. Rachel Scott loaded the bases with a walk. Senior Candice Meza entered the game as a pinch hitter and single to centerfield, plating Newman and Dodson.

The Lady Bison took a 7-2 lead, adding two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. MACU managed to produce two runs in the seventh but it wasn't enough, they left two on base in the final inning.

Jill Wilbanks is tagged with the loss for the Lady Evangels. The junior right-handed hurler threw six innings giving up seven runs on 13 hits with two strikeouts. Caitlyn Ulmer closed out the game allowing one hit.

Game two started much like game one with the Lady Bison posting the first run of the night cap in the third inning.

OBU used three hits and a MACU error to produce their final two runs of the game in the fifth inning.

The Lady Evangels were held to just three hits in the second game all coming from Newman who was 3-3 in the game.

Caitlyn Ulmer takes the loss in the circle in game two. The senior tossed a complete game allowing three runs, two earned on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Lady Evangels conclude regular season play on Wednesday, April 28th hosting SAC opponent St. Gregory's University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. MACU will honor three seniors in their final game at Jack Allen Field: Candice Meza, Caitlyn Ulmer and Kelcey Gabriel.
