Park City Plans Spring Skiing, Closing Mountain Village Early
Deer Valley, one of two main ski resorts around Park City, Utah, will close this weekend amid toasty temperatures that baked the western snowpack.
What about Deer Valley’s neighbor, Park City Mountain, though?
One side of the resort is succumbing to the heat: Sunday, March 29, will be the final day you can head out of the Mountain Village base. That day, the 3 Kings and First Time lifts will spin. Saturday’s the last day for the Crescent and Payday lifts.
But the season’s not over. Canyons Village will remain open, and “we’ll keep things going there as long as conditions allow,” Park City Mountain wrote in an Instagram post. “Stay tuned for updates.”

As anyone living in the Beehive State can tell you, it’s been a challenging ski season. Park City averages 355 inches of snow each year. This season, only 158 inches have fallen. That’s not to mention the warm temperatures plaguing the West this March, dampening the winter fun from California to Montana.
In Utah, Park City Mountain isn’t alone in rejiggering—or entirely cancelling—springtime operations. Snowbasin, Eagle Point, Cherry Peak, and Nordic Valley have already closed. Beaver Mountain is throwing in the towel today, March 27.
A weather system next week may provide a reprieve from the heat and, if Utah skiers are lucky, some snow. Although, depending on the freezing level, rain may fall, too.
In short, now’s the time to hedge your bets. Go skiing where you can, rather than waiting for an elusive April powder day.
Also, while you’re at it, give a big thank you to anyone from the mountain operations team you bump into. We can’t predict the weather, but we can choose how we react. Everyone, from the snowcat operators to the ski patrollers, is doing the best they can with a bad hand.
