Pennsylvania's Largest Ski Resort Will Be 100% Open After Impressive Snowmaking Efforts

0 3

Skiing in Pennsylvania isn't for the weary.

The majority of the snow is man-made, ice is common, and lift lines can stack up on weekends as the masses flee urban sprawl.

Skiing in Pennsylvania this season, however, at least at Camelback and Blue Mountain, has been pretty darn fun. Both resorts have exceeded average snowfall, with 60-plus inches, and cold temperatures have been the norm for most of the season.

The season has been so good that Camelback will attempt to remain open into May for the first time ever. Blue Mountain will close before then, but not without a few final snowmaking efforts to freshen up the hill.

Blue, known as the largest ski resort in Pennsylvania, took to social media on Wednesday, March 18, to show how successful its snowmaking efforts were last night and into this morning.

"The Blue Mountain difference? One of the largest snowmaking systems on the East Coast," writes the resort. "Our continued investment in TechnoAlpin technology is speaking for itself—just look at the last 36 hours of March snowmaking."

Blue's March snowmaking push was successful enough to open all 40 of the mountain's trails on Friday, March 20, making it the last ski resort in the state to be completely open.

Camelback's intended closing day in May is quite a few weeks away, but the resort was able to cash in on snowmaking opportunities over the last couple of days as well.

According to a Facebook post by the resort, snowmaking crews have been hammering the following trails and areas at Camelback: Cliffhanger, Nile Mile, Trail’s End, Julius Caesar, Little Caesar, Upper Marc Anthony, Sphinx, Sullivan Trail, and the Snow Tubing Park.

Take a look at the fruitful snowmaking photo below. Call me crazy, but Blue and Camelback's terrain is looking better than most of Tahoe at this point.
