Pennsylvania Ski Resort To Stay Open Into May for First Time Ever

0 11

While the majority of ski resorts west of the Mississippi River are hurting for snow, Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains have experienced a banner season.

With prolonged stretches of cold, snowmaking-worthy temperatures, and above-average natural snowfall, Camelback Resort, one of the most popular in the region, could be having one of its best seasons ever.

Conditions are so good, in fact, that Camelback announced today, February 5, that it wants to remain open for skiing and snowboarding into May, a first for the 60+ year old ski resort.

Camelback's current record for the longest season was set on April 9, 2009.

"Thanks to the bounty of Mother Nature and enhanced snowmaking techniques, Camelback Resort is excitedly extending winter well into spring, announcing daily skiing and riding through April 12, 2026, followed by weekend operations through the first weekend of May, conditions and weather permitting – positioning the resort for its longest ski season ever."

Camelback is reporting 50 inches of natural snowfall to date, matching what the ski resort typically receives throughout an entire season.

Popular trails such as Cliff Hanger and Nile Mile are sporting snow depths of 30 feet and 20 feet, respectively, according to a press release by Camelback, thanks to top-notch snowmaking conditions since early December.

I visited Camelback on New Year's Day 2026 and was treated to some of the best conditions I've ever experienced in Pennsylvania. The snow was cold and deep, and ice could only be found on the most popular thoroughfares.

Being a skier in Pennsylvania doesn't usually come with plentiful powder days and cold temperatures, but the winter of 2025/26 has been one to remember.

If Camelback can remain open throughout April and into May, will it go down as one of the best seasons in history? Perhaps. Enjoy, friends.
