Ornada is a two-year project that covers Armada’s wide-ranging team. Stalwarts like Phil Casabon and Tanner Hall join younger newcomers who are putting a fresh spin on freeskiing, including Olivia Asselin and Dani Bacher.
While the talent of these skiers may be Ornada’s core, what sets the movie apart is its approach to the ski film model. Like only a few other films, Ornada, on tour, has been accompanied by a live band fittingly called the “Ornada 8” during select shows. They play guitars, keyboards, and flutes, among other instruments. The rapper Dillon Cooper serves as the master of ceremonies.
That gives Ornada a unique energy. It’s a ski movie, yes, but it also has the dynamism of a concert. Like many good things in skiing, the only way to understand what that really means is to experience it in person.
This segment, which Armada recently shared, provides a look at the live arrangement. It was filmed at the New York City premiere. The band jams in front of the screen. Behind them, Asselin and Bacher do their thing, hitting rails and other features in the streets.
You can watch it below. Armada plans to post the rest of Ornada on YouTube on February 3.
