Baltimore Orioles Prospect Killed in Jet Ski Accident At 19

Baltimore Orioles minor league prospect Luis Guevara was killed in a jet ski crash over the weekend. He was 19.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Guevara was involved in a head-on collision between two jet skis Sunday night off Lido Key in Sarasota, Florida. Four people were involved, including at least one more Orioles prospect, with two being hospitalized.

The Orioles confirmed the death of the Tinaco, Venezuela native in a statement Tuesday night, saying they were "heartbroken" to share the news.

“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” Orioles general manager Mike Elias said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”

A 5-foot-8, 167-pound infielder, Guevara signed with Baltimore in 2023 as an international free agent. He played in the Dominican Summer League during his first two years with the organization.

This season, Guevara made his debut with the Orioles' American affiliates, appearing in 24 games for Single-A Delmarva and two with Double-A Chesapeake before a four-game stint in the Florida Complex League last week.

"The Chesapeake Baysox are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Luis Guevara, a beloved member of the Baysox and Orioles families," the Orioles' Double-A affiliate wrote on X/Twitter. "Our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and teammates. Luis will always hold a place in our baseball family."

For his career, Guevara hit .281/.420/.343 with 78 runs scored, 49 RBI and 73 walks in 114 minor league games.

We would like to offer our condolences to Guevara's family, friends and teammates, as well as the entire Orioles organization, during this difficult time.
