HANCOCK, Mass. (NEWS10) -- One person has died as a result of a ski accident at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office (BCDAO) reported. The incident took place on January 6 around 2:39 p.m.

Emergency responders arrived at Jiminy Peak on Monday afternoon after receiving reports of someone being injured while skiing down the left side of Cutter Trail. According to the BCDAO, the initial caller indicated to first responders that Alex Kemp, 19, of New Jersey, had reportedly gone over an embankment and suffered significant trauma to the head.

Kemp, a student at Williams College, was tended to on the scene by Northern Berkshire EMS before being taken to Berkshire Medical Center. He was later transferred for further care to Baystate Medical Center, where he was declared dead on Tuesday.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Kemp was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been involved. Jiminy Peak has cooperated with the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit, which is overseeing the ongoing investigation.
