When are Capital Region ski resorts opening for the season?
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- As temperatures drop and snowfall begins, local ski resorts are gearing up for the start of the season. Higher elevated resorts are starting to open, while others are just starting the snow-making process.
Here are when resorts and clubs around the Capital Region and Hudson Valley are opening.
Royal Mountain Ski Area, 3072 Route 10, Caroga Lake
The Royal Mountain Ski Area is anticipating an opening weekend on Dec. 7 and 8. The business shared the anticipated opening on its Facebook page Friday. The post also stated the business will begin regular snow-making starting Thanksgiving day. Opening weekend will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day. Whiteface Mountain, 5021 Route 86, Wilmington
Whiteface Mountain will re-open on Nov. 29 for daily operations. The resort will be opening at 9 a.m. According to the website, during the days prior to opening, the snowmakers will be expanding the open terrain. On Saturday, the lifts will be open at 8:30 a.m. for the lower mountain and at 9 a.m. for the upper mountain lifts. Season passes are still available on the website until Dec. 4 as well as Frequent Skier Cards, available until Dec. 13. For updates and a snow report, visit the resort's website.
West Mountain, 59 West Mountain Road, Queensbury
West Mountain has a tentative opening date set for Dec. 7. The ski area has six lifts, a tubing park and over 30 skiing trails. Season passes are currently on sale ranging from $60 t0 $2300. On Dec. 6, the mountain is hosting a "Merry on the Mountain" holiday event for $15 per person. Jiminy Peak, 37 Corey Road, Hancock, Massachusetts
Snowmaking has begun but no opening date is available. Season passes however, are available for purchase ranging from $247 to $1369. For updates visit their website or their Facebook page.
Hunter Mountain, 64 Klien Avenue, Hunter
An opening date at Hunter Mountain is yet to announced but the resort is actively making snow. On Friday, the mountain received about 5 inches of snow to serve as a base for the snow guns but it's not enough on the base of the mountain.
"The Hunter snowmaking team is getting after it with over 200 snow guns running top to bottom whenever temps allow with the goal of opening as soon as possible," VAIL Resort Communication manager, Courtney DiFiore said. "Right now, we’re waiting on sustained snowmaking temperatures in the base area before we can pin down a date to open."
The resort is offering riders and skiers one last week to purchase life tickets, EPIC passes and EPIC Day Passes. Tickets officially go off sale on Dec. 2, ranging from $48 to $123 for day passes and $445 to $1107 for season passes. Windham Mountain Club, 19 Resort Drive, Windham
The mountain is not open for skiing or snowboarding as of Monday, and uphill travel is not authorized but the resort received over 14 inches of snow Friday, making a base for snowmaking. According to the club, sustained snowmaking is set to begin as soon as consistently cold temperatures set in. The Shop however, is open for rental and retail needs. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and lift tickets as well as season passes are available online or in the shop.
Belleayre Mountain, 181 Galli Curci Road, Highmount
Belleayre Mountain opened to skiers and snowboarders on November 15 for the weekend and again on November 22 for a second weekend. The resort however, is taking a break through Thanksgiving to access the snow, evaluate how it is holding up and potentially make new snow towards the weekend. Lift tickets, season passes and frequent skier cards are available on the resort's website.
Gore Mountain, Willard Mountain, Catamount Mountain and Maple Ski Ridge are also working to reopen for the season. Although dates for these mountains are not available, the snow-making process is underway and rental shops are open.
