Abbott challenger distances herself from preference deals

Zali Steggall has distanced herself from preference deals with rival candidates as she challenges former Prime Minister Tony Abbott for the Sydney seat of Warringah. The former Olympic Ski Champion turned barrister will need to rely on preferences to win the blue-ribbon seat, which has been held by Mr Abbott since 1994. Ms Steggall told The Sydney Morning Herald she would welcome preferences from candidates expected to challenge Mr Abbott. Climate change will be one of Ms Steggall's main policy platforms, and the barrister says Mr Abbott's views do not represent those of the 'socially progressive' electorate.
