IOC to give full reasoning Monday on first banned Russian

0
Berlin (dpa) - The International Olympic Committee will on Monday publish the reasoning for one of the 10 Russian athletes it has handed Olympic life bans in connection with doping schemes at the 2014 Games in Sochi. The IOC disciplinary commission (DC) has imposed the sanctions on six cross-country skiers led by 50-kilometres gold medallist Alexander Legkov; and four skeleton sliders including gold medallist Aleksandr Tretiakov. The governing skeleton body has suspended its four athletes as a result.Skiing‘s FIS had the six athletes suspended from December 2016 until last month but said it could not take new action until it had received reasoned decisions from the IOC and that the athletes were eligible to compete in the World Cup which started Friday. But an IOC spokesman insisted: "All International Federations concerned by the cases handled by the Disciplinary Commission have already received all evidences as interested parties of such cases and had the opportunity to take part in the hearings." Without giving a name, the spokesman added: "On Monday, the IOC will publish the reasoning for the first case which was handled by the DC."In all, 28 Russians have been implicated in reports by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren in connection with doping practices in 2014, including the tampering with samples.
