Canada's Toutant wins first men's big air gold

Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Canada‘s Sebastien Toutant captured the first Olympic gold in men‘s big air on its Games debut.Toutant, 25, scored 174.25 points from the best two of his three runs, to beat Kyle Mack of the United States on 168.75 and Britain‘s Billy Morgan on 168.00 at the Alpensia ski jumping centre on Saturday.It is Canada‘s third snowboard gold medal in a men‘s event after a giant slalom victory in 1998 for Ross Rebagliati and a parallel giant slalom win by Jasey Jay Anderson in 2010.Toutant had finished 11th in the slopestyle, and was ninth in that event at the 2014 Sochi Games.Seventeen-year-old Redmond Gerard of the United States, who was hoping for a second Pyeongchang gold after winning slopestyle, was fifth.
