Showing at WatchTime New York 2024: Speake-Marin Ripples Skeleton

0 6

Speake-Marin is once again joining WatchTime New York this year, with the independent brand poised to showcase some magnificent novelties at the show. The event, which will take place at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall from October 18 to 20, will bring together over thirty-five incredible brands and countless collectors to experience a three-day weekend of impressive horology.

Speake-Marin will showcase a new milestone in its legacy of extraordinary watchmaking expertise with the Ripples Skeleton, its first model featuring a skeletonized automatic movement and openworked design. Powered by the new Caliber SMA07, beating at an impressive 36,000 vibrations per hour, this mechanical marvel stands out with a slim height of just 3.25mm and an integrated micro-rotor.

Skeleton watches are often considered miniature masterpieces, as the already intricate movement components are stripped down to their essential structure, offering a captivating view into the world of micro-mechanics. The delicate design also allows for a variety of aesthetic expressions, further emphasizing each watch’s unique character.

This philosophy rings true with the new Ripples Skeleton, part of the Ripples collection launched in 2022. Expanding Speake-Marin’s luxury sports watch line, this timepiece is both a technical and artistic tour de force. Inspired by futuristic forms the watch seamlessly blends geometric structures to create a design that plays with light and reflection. This lends the watch an almost ethereal lightness while highlighting the purity of its lines.

Housed in the iconic La City case, designed by Stéphane Lacroix, the timepiece offers a modern synthesis of circle and square. Made from 904L steel, known for its corrosion resistance and high polish, the case measures 40.3mm in diameter and is only 6.3mm thick, making it remarkably slim. Water-resistant to 50 meters, the case frames the skeletonized dial, showcasing the intricate movement within, allowing admirers to appreciate the precise workings in all their glory.

One of the standout features is the small seconds sub dial located between 1 and 2 o’clock, while the brand’s signature blued hands for the hours and minutes rotate from the center. Their vibrant hue provides a striking contrast against the refined architecture of the movement.

The back of the watch offers another unobstructed view of the Caliber SMA07, the twelfth manufacture caliber from this independent Geneva-based brand. Composed of 182 components, including a powerful tungsten micro-rotor, the high-beat movement offers a robust power reserve of 52 hours despite its delicate appearance.

As with all visible components, the movement is finished by hand according to the highest standards of traditional haute horlogerie. The Ripples Skeleton is completed with an integrated, three-row stainless steel bracelet featuring polished and satin-finished surfaces, along with an extension element for added comfort.

Pricing is marked at 29,000 CHF.
