My sister mocked my fiancee’s dead sibling in a sick joke at her hen do – I can’t move on, it’s tearing our family apart

A WOMAN has been uninvited from their sibling’s wedding after pulling an “indescribably cruel” prank at their fiancee’s hen do.

Writing to Slate’s Dear Prudence agony aunt column, the person explained that their 20-year-old sister announced at the party that she’d brought along a “special surprise guest”.

At which point she wheeled out “a skeleton dressed up in a sister of the bride t-shirt”.

But given that the bride-to-be’s sister died when she was 16, the poster was left in shock that their sibling “did something so theatrically cruel”.

Their family has tried to get them to forgive their sister, by telling them “She overstepped, but it was just a joke. You know she likes to be edgy. She’s devastated.

“C’mon, she’s a dumb kid and it didn’t mean anything. She’s very sorry and just wants to get back to normal.”

However, the person has yet to hear from the sister herself.

“I have stood firm,” they continued. “Probably for the first time in my life. This was such an indescribably cruel thing to do (to anyone! whether I loved them or not) that I can’t just sweep it under the rug.

“So now my side of the family (parents, brother, aunts, and cousins) aren’t coming to the wedding.

“Which is fine. I don’t care. The thing is that at this point, even my fiancee wants me to just give in to keep the peace.

“She says that it’s not worth causing so much disruption over a stupid prank that went wrong. Except it wasn’t a prank!

“No one would consider that funny and genuinely expect people to laugh.”

And while their fiancee has told them to leave things now, rather than make the situation worse, the poster isn’t willing to let things go.

“I feel like I’m right, but no one else seems to agree,” they concluded.

I feel that it’s so clear she’s the one in the wrong, but at this point all the blame is on me.”

“And no one is even trying to make my sister apologise! I feel that it’s so clear she’s the one in the wrong, but at this point all the blame is on me.

“I have started to wonder if I’m really the one in the wrong here by not letting it go?”

In response to the letter, Dear Prudence’s Jenee Desmond-Harris – the outlet’s current agony aunt – replied: “I don’t think you’re the bad guy! She hasn’t even apologised!

“You should be in charge of who from your side of your family is invited to your wedding, and your fiancee can do the same for her side.”

She added that while it’s “generous” of the fiancee to forgive the sister, it “doesn’t mean you want to look out at the audience while you’re standing at the altar and see someone you are mad at and think is awful”.

“Even though the skeleton incident wasn’t directed at you, it makes sense that it would change the way you feel about her,” she concluded.

“Feel free to stand firm on this!”

Speaking of wedding fallouts, this woman uninvited her sister from her nuptials after she booked her ceremony for the week after hers.

This woman was so desperate to get engaged by 30 that she bought a ring and forced her man to propose.

This couple are having a Harry Potter-themed wedding in the Metaverse and have invited 6,000 guests.
