A 15-year-old boy has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder after the school employee was seriously wounded, police said.

Emergency services including a large number of police vehicles arrived at the scene at 8:40am this morning.

The school was immediately cordoned off and the injured teacher was brought to a nearby hospital.

There is currently no information on whether other people were injured in connection to the incident.

The Skanska Dagbladet newspaper said the attacker carried a long knife, wore a skeleton mask, a helmet and what looked like a bulletproof vest.

Police spokeswoman Ewa-Gun Westford said the 45-year-old male victim was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

During the arrest a police officer fired a weapon, Westford said.

The motive for the attack was unclear, Westford said, adding it was not immediately clear whether the teenager is a student at the school.

A nearby sports venue was used to gather the students and staff who were in the school building at the time of the incident.

Milian Andersson, 14, was at the school when the horrifying incident occurred.

He told local media that his class were kept inside for at least an hour with the door locked until police allowed them out of the building.

Local police have declined to comment.
