New Balance Cooked Up an Excellent Halloween Sneaker for Its Skateboarding Line
Earlier this year, the New Balance Numeric skateboarding division launched the 417 as Franky Villani’s debut pro model. Now, with Halloween just over a month away, the sneaker is getting a Holiday-themed treatment that may just attract non-skaters as well.
A black and orange color scheme sees the 417 leaning into Halloween, but not too heavily with the former color claiming most of the turf with contrast stitching. Orange trim sits beneath the collar and forms the “N” logo with yellow trim. It then repeats for the branding on the tongue and heel, the latter of which features a menacing Jack-o’-Lantern and a retooled “NB#” logo embodying spooky season.
A translucent outsole hosts an orange base with another Jack-‘o-Lantern, but there’s no hint of the flourish unless you’re looking directly at it. A final detail special for this release then arrives on the insole graphic, which features a full Jack-o’-lantern with green roots hosting Villani’s full name.
Villani’s NB Numeric 417 boasts a classic look that doesn’t betray its recent arrival, from the vulcanized outsole to the Vans Half Cab-esque upper that makes use of canvas and mesh. Given the resemblance to one of Vans’ staple silhouettes, it’s likely that few would bat an eye if a non-skater donned the 417 — making this version an excellent choice for those who want to take their love of Halloween to their feet.
The New Balance Numeric 417 is out now through the brand’s website for $95, with a full run of sizes still available.
