WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, a Peekskill man was sentenced to 30 years in state prison on Thursday for the fatal shooting of Ernest Wilson, 53, of Poughkeepsie. Reginald McClure, 40, pleaded guilty to the crime on May 17.

The DA's Office says that McClure was sentenced to 25 years for first-degree manslaughter and five years for two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. On May 21, 2023, at around 7:30 p.m. the victim was dropping off his child with the child's mother, McClure's girlfriend, in Peekskill when the victim extended his hand to greet the defendant.

It is alleged that in return, McClure fired six rounds from a gun, hitting Wilson twice. Law enforcement says two children witnessed the shooting.

Wilson was brought to Westchester Medical Center before succumbing to his injuries on May 24, 2023. McClure fled, but was arrested at a hotel in Yonkers on May 25, 2023 where he was found with two illegal, loaded guns.

The Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the Yonkers Police Department and the New York State Police investigated the incident.
