Aaron “Jay” Danielson, 39, was fatally shot in the chest during protests and counter-protests staged by Antifa activists and supporters of President Trump in Portland, Oregon on August 29.

Portland is among the hundreds of cities in the US that have seen protests and unrest in the months since the death of George Floyd, who was killed in May.

The city has also seen rioting, looting, and clashes between protesters and police.

Footage shows independent reporter James Klug interviewing a number of Portland locals about the unrest.

“There was a shooting of a Trump supporter, recently,” he tells one woman.

She replies, “awesome”, and laughs.

She then continues: “So the f*** what? He got shot. Is he alive?”

Klub responds: “I believe he died.”

“Tough luck,” she says.

“Don’t be a f***ing Trump supporter in Portland.”

‘DISGUSTING’

The clip provoked outrage after going viral on social media.

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, retweeted the video and wrote: “Sick and twisted!”

Another user said: “How are these people so de-sensitized from the suffering of their fellow human beings???”

“This is disgusting,” wrote a third.

The man wanted in connection with Danielson’s death, self-identified Antifa protester Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, was killed on September 3 as a federal task force tried to arrest him in Olympia, Washington.

In an interview with VICE earlier that day, Reinoehl claimed that, prior to the shooting, Danielson and other members of a pro-Trump truck parade had been threatening a friend of his with a knife.

“I had no choice. I mean, I, I had a choice,” he said.

“I could have sat there and watched them kill a friend of mine of color. But I wasn’t going to do that.”

A 19-page police affidavit filed after the shooting made no mention of any knife found on or near Danielson’s body.

An expandable metal baton was found nearby and Danielson had a loaded Glock 17 pistol on his waist.

“Had I stepped forward, he would have maced or stabbed me,” Reinoehl continued.

“I was confident that I did not hit anyone innocent and I made my exit.”

Security footage included in Reinoehl’s arrest warrant appears to show him spot Danielson and a friend walking behind him, hide in a parking lot to let them pass, and then emerge and follow them before the shooting occurred.
