Nick Young deletes tweet implying he thinks he could help Lakers with 3-point shooting woes

The Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t get their shots to fall from behind the 3-point line in their regular season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, and it’s one of the main reasons they lost. Luckily, they’ve already been offered a helping hand by NBA champion and former Laker Nick Young.

Following the Lakers’ loss, the 33-year-old took to Twitter to let the Lakers know he’s still a free agent. The tweet has since been deleted, but our own Harrison Faigen used his giraffe powers to go back in time and take a screenshot.

Two years ago, Young had a career-reviving season under head coach Luke Walton with the Lakers. In 60 starts with the Lakers during the 2016-17 season, Young averaged 13.2 points on 40 percent shooting from behind the arc. If the front office was confident they’d get the same Swaggy P, signing him would be a no-brainer, but that isn’t likely the case.

Young signed with the Golden State Warriors for the full taxpayer mid-level exception last summer and failed to live up to his price tag, shooting 41 percent from the field while making 37.7 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Those aren’t terrible percentages, especially for the Lakers, but it might not be enough to justify bringing him and his antics back to the team, especially after he struggled in the postseason, shooting just 30.2 percent overall and 29.8 percent from behind the arc.

Imagine a team with Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley, JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo and Nick Young? There would a “30 For 30” on that locker room, for sure.

One could make the argument that Young is an upgrade over Stephenson, who has looked out place so far with the Lakers, but that would assume Young is a better player now than he was last season. It’s possible, but more unlikely than it is likely.

While it would be nice to have Young back in the locker room for the memes and the occasional games where he can’t miss, there are more immediate needs for the Lakers currently than a second round of Swaggy P.

So basically, Young can shoot his shot, but he probably shouldn’t celebrate this one early, either:
