January 2022 issue of Sailing Today with Yachts & Yachting out now

0 6

The January 2022 issue of Sailing Today with Yachts & Yachting is out now!

We’re focussing on the latest developments in sustainable sailing in our new issue, from the latest ‘green’ sails to hydrogenerators and a very eco-friendly boat on our cover, too. She’s the first electrically driven sailing boat from a mass producer.

The boat is made by Excess, which is an offshoot of Lagoon catamarans, one of the biggest multihull manufacturers. Lagoon is owned by the Beneteau Group. Surely a sign of things to come from other big brands. Read editor Sam Jefferson’s full boat test in the new issue.

Elsewhere in this issue, we look at recycled sails. The big thing here is – do they perform? Yep, they do, and they’re attractive for a number of other reasons, too. We go into the full story in the January 2022 issue.

See, we’re not all about brochure shots after all! This somewhat blurred photo, probably taken upside down while hanging off the transom, shows one of the latest hydrogenerators on the market. What’s out there that’s good for you? We reveal all.

The 11th Hour Racing Team have been leading the way on sustainability for some time. Skipper Charlie Enright has said it is all about ‘moving the needle’, and certainly their campaign in the Transat Jacques Vabre and the transatlantic race itself make big strides towards a sustainable model for ocean racing. We cover the race and look more at 11th Hour in this issue.

It’s winter in northern Europe and normally scores of boat owners would be heading to the Caribbean for some much-needed sunshine. Travel restrictions are opening up all the time and the charter market beckons, whether you want some racing or just a gentle pootle over to the next sun-kissed anchorage. Caribbean charter is hard to beat – we have the latest.

Back on home shores, one of the biggest dreams for most sailors is to sail around Britain. We follow the story of one man who did it aged 70. He’s full of good advice for those following on.

We’re lucky to have the great Rod Heikell among our writers. This month Rod and wife Lou write on how they are making their yacht easier to handle as they get older. It’s a great article.

Our regular look at the latest boats on the market includes this curiosity – who wouldn’t wish to have this at the end of a pontoon? A gem of a boat. More in this issue!

And we also enjoyed a sail this month on the newest yacht from Salona. Here’s the saloon and galley – pretty spacious!

Each month we feature a marina somewhere in the world, with a full guide on  how to get into it safely by yacht, plus some good things to do when you’re there. This month it’s Whitehaven in the north west of England. A lovely spot, just inland from the Lakes.

ROLEX TP52 World Championship RCNP 2021

We were also out in Palma – it was a tough gig this one – seeing the TP52s up close. Our report shines a light on some of the little seen aspects of pro racing in this ultra-competitive circuit – and we have some cracking shots of the boats in action.

We always bring you the latest events and news and this month we flag up the early bird discount available for Cowes Week entrants – plus lots more interesting and essential news to peruse about your favourite hobby!

There is tons more in this issue – including advice on racing and cruising.

And an incredible story about taking a boat to the very high latitudes.

We hope you enjoy the issue!
