In Memory of Graham Dall

Graham Dall sadly passed away last Friday, 9th May. The eldest son of Fraser and Anne, Graham was educated at George Heriot’s School. A natural-born leader, Graham captained the school 1st XV as well as the Scottish Schools squad on their tour of Australia in 1993. 

On leaving school, Graham attended Edinburgh University to study medicine. Such was the talent of the man that Graham led the Scotland under-19 team in season 1993-94 and captained the national under-21 side in all ten matches in seasons 1994-95 and 1995-96, all whilst completing his degree. He also toured Zimbabwe with a Scotland Development XV in 1995. 

Graham continued to concentrate on his medical studies, often completing a twelve-hour shift in a hospital and then heading straight to Goldenacre to captain the side. Heriot’s were successful in winning back-to-back championships in 1998, and Graham played professional rugby for Edinburgh Reivers, with further representative honours following with the Scotland A team.

After living in Edinburgh, Graham, his wife Anna, and their family moved to the Scottish Borders, where Graham worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Borders General Hospital, specialising in foot and ankle surgery. Graham was affectionately known as “The Ankle Man” in the Borders. 

Graham was part of the ‘Dall Rugby Dynasty’. Father Fraser played for Heriot’s and Scotland B, younger brother Andrew played for Heriot’s, Edinburgh and Scotland, and Alistair played for Heriot’s and Perthshire. 

Our thoughts and condolences at this difficult time are with Graham’s wife Anna and the four children, his parents Fraser and Anne, and the rest of the entire Dall family.
