Why is Six Nations clash between Wales vs Scotland being played in Llanelli and not at the Principality Stadium?

THE Six Nations is back on our screens after a seven month hiatus – and we’re preparing for a dramatic Super Saturday.

Wales and Scotland aren’t able to claim this year’s Championship, but the two nations are set to go head-to-head in what will be a fiercely contested clash.

The Welsh usually play their matches at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, but you may have noticed they’re in different surroundings this time around.

The fixtures will also see Alun Wyn Jones break the world record for test caps with 149 appearances for Wales and the Lions.

Why is Wales vs Scotland being played in Llanelli?

This match is effectively a shoot-out for fourth place in the table as the two nations meet in South Wales this weekend.

Both returned to action with friendlies a week ago, with Scotland beating Georgia while the Welsh looked rusty in defeat to France.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no fans are allowed in to watch Six Nations matches as they return.

Instead of playing at their usual home in Cardiff, Wales will host the Scots at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli.

The town is around 50 miles west of the capital and the stadium plays hosts to local Rugby Union club Scarlets.

No games this year can be played at Principality Stadium as the venue is being used as an emergency health centre during the pandemic.

Scarlets chief operating officer Phil Morgan said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to host these fixtures at Parc y Scarlets.

“We are hugely proud of the facilities we have here at the Parc and the events we have been able to host over the years. We are looking forward to welcoming Wayne and the team.”
