The Virtual Terrace • England RU centre Luther Burrell negotiating with Warrington
Steve Prive prefers King to Atkins at Centre, as shown by Kings selection there above Atkins for key games (Challenge Cup, Play Off Semi, Grand Final).
Playing King at Centre allowed Price to have them both in the 17 while we wait for Currie to come back in a few weeks. Basically the choice was Livett to 2nd row, Westwood to 2nd row or King to 2nd row. Playing King there gives us a stronger 17 - he certainly did a decent job there.
My guess this is an Agent bigging up interest in his client. The exemption rule makes it tempting for a SL club that are able to spend more than the cap allows, but it’s still a risk. 100% exempt in year one is tempting, but even at 50% exemption in year two, a decent RU convert will be on £200k per year i’d expect, so it’s a fair chunk of salary cap on a player that hasn’t played the game at this level before.
