Leigh Centurions • Re: Challenge cup final

Prediction time!
Come 2021 when the new TV contract is negotiated - I will rephrase that, when the game is told what the deal is by Sky - it will have no bargining power and will recieve a much reduced contract than the present one. SL will then withhold any funding from the leagues below and return to licensing, closed shop or whatever name we put on it.
Consequences
Clubs will start a slow process to oblivion, some may be very quick, communities will not have their "Professional" club as a focal point any longer, interest will wane, schoolkids won't recognise it, and the downward spiral we are presently witnessing in the amatuer game will gather a pace, all the kids who make it all the way to SL are not just from the towns of SL clubs a lot are from places like Dewsbury, Batley, Leigh, the Cumbrian clubs etc, the game cannot produce enough players now, if the heartlands clubs are no more there will be a lot less, the conveyor belt will grind on stuttering slower and slower.
Conclusion
If and I strongly expect the game moves along with the thoughts of Chaiman Leneghan, SL they will be only looking after themselves, they have not really thought this out or they are not bothered what the future holds, if it is good enough for the tenure of the incumbent SL Chairmen that will do, forget what follows, it does not matter to them.

Great post Stotty.
