New Zealand's ladies have won back-to-back Rugby World Cup Sevens titles after beating France 29-0 in San Fransicso. They became the first team to ever win successive RWC 7s titles, hoping to inspire the men, who face Fiji in the semi finals.

Reigning World Rugby Women's Sevens Player of the Year, 22-year-old Michaela Blyde, scored a hat-trick in the final, ending the tournament on nine tries in total.

Portia Woodman and Tyler Nathan-Wong also got on the scoresheet, in a comprehensive performance that was never in doubt.

"It's an amazing day," said captain Sarah Goss. "France are a quality team and for them not to score against us is a proud effort from the sisters.

"We had one goal and that was to take the trophy back and I can't wait to go home and show it to the New Zealand public."

HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series champions Australia picked up the bronze medal after beating hosts 24-14, after they had earlier been knocked out of the running by France, who won 19-12 in their semi final.
