Farndon Marathon 2014

0

Royal Chester Juniors have started their winter training in dramatic style with a sponsored marathon row from the Chester clubhouse to Farndon and back.

Supported by coaches, parents and other club members the junior squad took to the Dee in single sculls, doubles and quads for the 24 miles round trip. The river to Pulford is reasonably familiar territory but upstream the river narrows considerably with a stronger flow, overhanging trees and frequent deceptive bends. The crews, which included scullers from Grosvenor Rowing Club, coped brilliantly with the testing conditions during the 3-hour paddle upstream.

Rowers met with other squad members who had cycled to Farndon and everyone refueled with a tasty pasta meal provided with the generous support of Yvonne Mitchell at the Farndon Hotel.

The return journey with a modest stream took slightly less than 3 hours and all crews arrived back in Chester tired but pleased that they had risen to the challenge.
