Susanna Temming, a former University of Texas student-athlete and assistant coach at Southern Methodist University, has been appointed assistant coach at UCLA.
“I’m beyond excited to join the UCLA women’s rowing team,” Temming said. “I can’t wait to be part of head coach Vanessa Tavalero’s staff, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help contribute to the growth and success of the team.”
Temming served as an assistant coach at SMU from 2024 to 2025. Before SMU, she coached at the Texas Rowing Center, where she worked with the high-performance team, the junior varsity men, and advanced masters. She served also as assistant diversity coordinator and assistant coach at Texas Rowing For All.
“I love rowing and the experiences I’ve had as a rower,” Temming said. “I’m passionate about passing this on to the athletes of this UCLA team.”
A native of The Netherlands, Temming was recruited by the University of Texas at Austin. During her college career, she won two national championships in the first varsity eight, was a nine-time member of the Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll, a two-time recipient of the Academic Provost Award, and a CRCA National Scholar Athlete twice.
Internationally, she rowed for the Dutch national team, winning a silver medal at the 2021 U23 World Rowing Championships, a bronze medal at the 2020 U23 European Rowing Championships, and a bronze medal at the 2018 U19 Junior World Rowing Championships.
Temming graduated in 2023 from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in educational psychology.
